It's a proven fact, wine regions are the perfect destinations for foodies. But where to start when new to a place? Let me take you on a culinary journey through the picturesque Rheingau wine region in Germany on my blog.

Today is the Day of German Sekt, aka sparkling wine. If you are not familiar with sparkling wines from Germany, there is one important rule to remember. You will find a surprising large range of good quality sparkling wine comming from the 13 official wine regions. But if you are looking for only the best, there is one category that will deliver: German Winzersekt.

Rhubarb is in season and warmer days are just around the corner. In other words, it's time to mix a refreshing rhubarb spritz to be enjoyed on the terrace.

PLACE TO GO - If you are heading to the Rheingau, one of Germany's leading wine regions, this is a place you should definitly put on your itinerary. More than 1,000 years old, the Gray House (Graues Haus) in Oestrich-Winkel, a former royal mansion today is home to an excellent delicatessen, a bistro and a small gourmet restaurant offering a set 3 and 4 course menu which is great value for money.

Yes, the Algarve makes wine! This largely undiscovered wine region in the south of Portugal counts over 30 wineries (with some stats claiming the number arrives to around 50), making wine under the Vinho Regional designation.
