Living under two hours drivetime from the Mosel vineyards, I have explored the region at various occasions and stayed at several of the areas’ hotels. The family-run hotel set in one of the highest lauded vineyard areas in the heart of the Middle Mosel might not look spectacular, but when it comes to standout food experiences, it is one of the highest lauded dining places in the Mosel Valley and Germany.

Hidden away in a side valley of the Mosel, the lovely boutique hotel owned and operated by Ruth and Harald Rüssel respectively the resident wine expert and chef – while the latter is now joined by son Frederik in the kitchen – is the perfect romantic gourmet hideaway.
Set in a converted historic mill, the 14 themed rooms and suites are all individually designed, featuring natural materials, rustic charm and modern comforts inspired by the beautiful natural surroundings of the Hunsrück forest and mountains.
A large garden area and an extensive terrace overlooking a little pond invite to linger and daydream.
The two on-site restaurants both focus on regional, seasonal produce. Restaurant Hasenpfeffer features traditional country house dishes while the Michelin-starred gourmet restaurant offers high-end, creative ‘New German’ cuisine, often incorporating foraged ingredients from the surrounding Hunsrück forests and game hunted by chef Haral Rüssel.
