Make sure to plan some time for the lower gardens of Palacio de Estoi. This part of the complex is open to the public and only accessible via the public entrance near the little church of Estoi; a leisurely 10 minutes walk from the hotel. The beautiful grand staircases addorned with blue azulejo tiles are certainly worth it.

One of the highlights of my recent trip to the Algarve was staying at Pousada Palacio de Estoi. This stunning 19th century rococo palace today is part of the renown 'small luxury hotel of the world' group. Locaed only a short 15 minutes drive from Faro, it is the perfect hidaway for a tranquil stay away from the crowds.

How can such a tiny village have so many gorgeous corners? If it's not yet on your travel bucket list, you need to add this historic hilltop village.

Nothing in particular here. Just the beauty of the French Riviera.

My latest find from a recent trip to the Algarve in the south of Portugal is this sparkling wine from Cabrita Wines. It's made from the native Tinta Negra Mole grape, a red wine grape used in Madeira production. The grape is also commonly fermented without skin contact to make white wines. Cabrita Blanc de Noir Negra Mole is aged in stainless steel and old barrels for two years before it's bottle fermented on the yeasts for another two years.

My calender reminds me that today kicks-off the two-day annual lemon festival at Gargnano on Lake Garda. It is one of a couple of lemon festivals across the southern part of Europe, including a couple in Italy. All of them are well worth a visit but if you can't go, celebrate the famous Italian lemons with these delicious mini limoncello tarts at home. They will not only remind you of Italy, but also put a bit of spring feeling on your plate.
